Learn to Swim

Swimming is a crucial skill that lasts a lifetime.

Under partnership with the Lopez School District’s physical education initiative, Lopez school kids will be able to take the School-to-Pool trail to get their swim on. During the school year, the Lopez School District will integrate swimming into the PE curricula for all grades to reach our joint goal that every child graduates knowing how to swim. Through a generous donor, at no cost to the school, all K-12 students will be able to have swim lessons, time for swim fun, and water activities as part of two sessions of PE programming during the school year.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions

Is the Swim Center indoor or outdoor?

Both! In the summer, the pools are open to the sky. During the cooler months (approximately October through May), a seasonal heated dome covers the pools, allowing the Swim Center to operate year-round. Operating hours, pool availability, and programs vary by season, so please check the current schedule before your visit.

What amenities are available at the pool?

The Swim Center includes changing rooms, hot showers, a community room, outdoor gathering spaces, ADA-accessible pool entry with both a pool lift and gently sloped entry steps with dual handrails, and two private changing and shower rooms—one ADA/gender-neutral and one family/gender-neutral—for anyone who prefers additional privacy.

What should I bring to the pool?

Bring your swimsuit, towel, and any personal swim gear you'd like, such as goggles or a metal or plastic water bottle. Towels are not provided.

Where can I find today's swim schedule?

View our live schedule for the most current lap swim, open swim, and program times. Hours, pool availability, and programs will vary throughout the year.

Can I rent the pool for a private event?

Yes. Pool rentals are available for birthday parties and other private events, subject to scheduling and facility availability. Please contact our Aquatics & Facilities Manager for details.

Do you have more than one pool?

Yes! Two pools. Two temperatures. So everyone can find the pool that's right for them. Lap Pool – A four-lane, 25-yard pool ranging from 3.5 to 7.5 feet deep; ideal for lap swimming, fitness, swim training, and recreational swimming. Warm-Water Wellness Pool – A 24' × 38' pool maintained at a warmer temperature and ranging from 3.5 to 4.5 feet deep; ideal for swim lessons, water exercise, aquatic therapy, family activities, and anyone who prefers warmer water.

How can I submit feedback?

We welcome your ideas, suggestions, and feedback. Please share your comments in one of our Suggestion Boxes, email Membership@lopezislandpool.org, or speak with our staff at the front desk. Your input helps us continue improving the Swim Center.

How do you keep the water safe and clean?

Our pools use state-of-the-art filtration, UV disinfection, and continuous water-quality monitoring to help provide a clean, safe swimming environment. The Swim Center follows all applicable state health and safety regulations. One of the most important things you can do to keep the pool water clean is to shower before entering the pools.
